Born October 9, 1940, John Lennon is maybe best remembered for his work as a singer and songwriter of the Beatles. Lennon formed his first band, the Quarrymen, in 1957 to play songs of the skiffle craze taking Liverpool at the time. Lennon and later additions to the Quarrymen George Harrison and Paul McCartney soon split off and formed the first version of the Beatles with future"fifth Beatle" Stuart Sutcliffe on bass.
